Exile – Reboot

So if you’ve seen some of my older posts, you may have seen my old story Exodus. (The name didn’t exactly fit, so I’ll be calling it Exile from now on.) This was one of my earliest stories, but looking back I actually think the plot had a lot of potential. The biggest problem was that I didn’t know where to go with it at the time.

It’s the story of a young man, the heir to the lordship, who was framed for the death of his uncle, and subsequently exiled. During his time leaving the country, he met up with Sophus, an outlaw trying to leave his past life behind. They left the country, fleeing the vengeful bandits, and decide to stick together. And… that’s it. My idea, so far as I had one, was that they would wander other countries and make some sort of life for themselves. Possibly our hero, Kyler, would get in an accident and lose his memory. This was a bad idea. It was only looking back on the story later that I realized that the obvious story was for Kyler to try and clear his name by finding the true killers. So I think this is a strong candidate for revisitation and revival.

Our main character is Kyler, no longer a boy but not yet a man. He has a strong character and sense of honor, but can sometimes be naive in extending that honor to others less deserving. He is a simple and honest soul who would have made a worthy successor to his Father. He has a great respect for animals and a love of nature. As such, he has several animals, including two horses, a wolfhound, and a hunting falcon.

After his exile, he meets with Sophus (whose name I have changed to Faelin for the time being). Faelin is a very canny individual who has relied on his intellect and quick wits to survive in the brutal environment of the bandit society. He is a deft hand with his knives, but mostly relies on his speed and wits to outmaneuver his opponents. Despite his occupation and surroundings, he has always maintained some decency in his heart, which is what caused him to eventually turn on the bandits and escape, meeting up with Kyler on the way.

I think these two characters will work well together. Both of them will need each other’s skills to restore Kyler’s honor and rid Faelin of his bandit  past and nemeses. It should be a rousing tale. Thanks for reading.
